This is a DIY Excel budget spreadsheet with formulas. It’s a simple Excel tracker to log your income and spending. No need to write formulas, already included. This budget sheet can also be printed and used as a free printable monthly budget.
Money management Excel sheet. If you’re looking for a way to track your spending to increase your savings, this excel budget template is just for that.
Formulas are already included, so you only have to enter the amounts for each spending category and for your income.
As an alternative, if you prefer a printable budget sheet, you can use it that way too.
For budgeting beginners, this monthly budget template helps you see the whole picture of how you’re using your money.
From this you can identify instances where you can cut spending.
It’s much easier to track and see where the numbers are going, instead of keeping everything loose in your head.
Everyones situation is different when it comes to budgeting. So, you can prioritize spending and cuts according to your own needs.
Fixed expenses like, mortgage, rent, car payments, taxes, child care, health insurance are not easy to change, unless you do some big lifestyle changes. However, the variable spending like, food, clothes and other discretionary are easier to cut.

How to use the DIY Excel Monthly Budget Template
- Start with the cash you have available.
- Enter your monthly income from job and any other, like a side hustle.
- Enter all your expenses. The fixed ones, you don’t even have to change the number from month to month. You can estimate the variable expenses.
- Savings. There is a row for savings. You can enter what you’re able to save after all spending. Another option is to pay yourself first. Save an amount, enter that first, then work your way around what’s left for spending.
- Take a look at the overall cash ins and cash outs. Identify where you may be able to do big or small cuts.
- Save your free Excel monthly budget. You can start naming it like, January monthly budget, February monthly budget etc. for every month.
- A year in review. At the end of the year go over each month cash flows, ins and outs. See your progress or where you felt behind.
