Want to side hustle or have the entrepreneurial itch? Shopify is a platform where many are making money selling with an online store or eShop.
There are trendy low-investment ideas you can use to start a small business on Shopify, without having to drop everything else that you’re doing in life.
This platform has grown its revenues 47% over the past one year, thanks to an ever increasing digital economy. This is not a prediction of future growth in online shopping.
Shopify is an option to host your store for physical and digital products or services you want to sell online.
You can sell trending products or evergreen ones on your Shopify store. Some people use the platform for additions of other primary businesses. Others start out their side hustling pursuits on this platform.
Setting up shop on the platform is easy, however you still need to have a solid business idea and put efforts into marketing of your products.
So, if you’re looking to make money online or make money working from home, a store on this platform may be your kick start.
How to improve your odds of success on Shopify?
- Have a trendy or popular product that can be sold on an eShop.
- Put the online marketing efforts
- Use the platform resources to your advantage
- Be diligent when completing your product descriptions – the details you provide help the platform find and present your product to the users. Find keywords that your audience may be using to make it easier for your products to come up in searches.

7 Products to sell on Shopify and make money – Low-investment costs
Cosmetic Products
For this part of “7 products to sell on Shopify” I chatted with a new product creator about her shop.
Amelia, from Mili Beauti is a 14 years old student and creator who recently opened her lipgloss store on Shopify. This Teenpreneur creates handmade lipgloss from scratch on her spare time.
Introduce your business and tell us your story
I make handmade lip glosses. I’m planning to soon make more products like lip scrubs and lip oils. My lip glosses are made with TKB gloss base, coconut oil, vitamin E oil, flavoring oils, cosmetic mica powder or cosmetic glitter.
The glosses give your lips a natural shine, while relieving dryness. This leaves your lips feeling smoother. The glosses are thick but not sticky. This thickness requires less application for a longer lasting.

Shopify has a free introductory subscription offer. This offer allows you to use the platform free for a 3 months trial. Once this period ends, you’ll pay $30 a month for the basic plan (or more if you upgrade to use additional features).
For your store’s website, you can choose from the free themes. The already built templates make it easier to start creating your website and to put your products for sale quickly. This is the option I chose for my Shopify store at Mili Beauti.
You can opt to build your theme from scratch. This is a more technical process and it requires that you incur more expenses.
Why did you chose Shopify to create your store versus other e-commerce platforms
So, there are other platforms that are free to use. The Shopify monthly subscription fee is pricey when compared to some of those e-commerce services.
However, I prefer to use Shopify for my business for a few reasons.
- It’s easy to manage and is user friendly
- It has a great inventory system
- It has great educational resources – videos to guide you for building your site and for marketing your brand.
- Shopify is a company with name recognition
How did you earn your first sale and which channels do you use for traffic
So far, social media has been my main traffic driver. I made sure to have all my products and packaging ready before I opened the store. I stacked up followers on my social media accounts before the launch.
My Instagram and Snapchat are the main channels I use to promote the store. I also engage friends and family in promotions. They use their social media influence to promote my lipglosses. In the near future, I will use the Shopify marketing services to promote my brand.
What are your recommendations for future shop owners
On the building end, I will say select a theme/template that is easy to use and is customizable.
For marketing, try to add as many followers to your social media as possible and don’t be shy to promote. Paid advertising will help you, but the best promoters are other influencers and users who trust you and like your products.
Print on Demand Products
Print on demand is a low cost and low risk way to sell t-shirts, bags, mugs and other printed merchandise, online.
If you’re an artist, a writer, a graphic designer or a creator in general; print on demand is a clear way to monetize your creativity.
You can sell many of these products on a Shopify store. They’re print on demand because you don’t have to hold the inventory. Basically, you create the items after the customer places an order.
Print on demand services make selling these products fairly easy. You’ll need to create your product using an on-demand platform like, Printiful, Lulu Xpress, Printify and others.
Each print on demand platform specializes on particular products. So you have to decide which platform is the best fit for your products.
The best feature about print on demand is that you can use the same graphic or idea and put it on a t-shirt, on a mug, on sneakers or a tote bag.
Digital Products Stores
These are media products sold in formats like, PDFs, MP3s, videos and templates. Digitals can be sold over and over without having to replenish inventory.
Digital products you can sell online include; ebooks, courses, resume templates, financial printables, organizational printables, subscriptions and more.
The E-learning industry continues to grow and it’s expected to be a $331 billion industry by year 2025. So, courses and printable educational products are in high demand as the self education and homeschooling trends continue to rise.
There are some Apps that you will need if you’re building a digital store on Shopify. Depending on what you need, some of the digital Apps like Digital Download by Shopify, Sendowl, FetchApp and Thinkific can be used to download the files to the customers.
Art and Prints
E-commerce platforms have made it easier for artists to create and sell online. Artists can reach large audiences thru out the world selling online. You can sell your original art or reproduction prints with no geographic boundaries.
Some of the more popular art items include; pop art, wall art, pixel art, anime, acrylic paintings.
As with print on demand products, arts and prints need to be created using printing and fulfillment platforms.

Final thoughts
These are some of the products trending at this time, but they’re not the only ones. A lot of things are selling online right now, if you take a look at Google Trends.
Finding what’s selling is only part of the puzzle, marketing the products is the real key to successfully making money in the long run.
